PLATELET RICH PLASMA

Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP is a treatment traditionally used in several areas of medicine including wound care, ophthalmology, orthopedics and dentistry. Now it can be used in aesthetic medicine. What makes PRP so fascinating is that it uses our very own plasma and makes use of these natural growth factors.

When PRP is used in combination with clotting factors found in plasma, the resulting product acts a lot like a hyaluronic acid filler, but has more collagen fabrication capacity. This is also named the ‘Vampire Lift’ or V lift.

Mesotherapy can be used in combination with PRP treatments and provides an effective synergy. Mesotherapy on its own helps induce collagen production in the dermis of your skin. During consultation more can be discussed about the procedure.

PRP is best used in three separate sessions usually 2-4 weeks apart. There is often enough plasma available so that multiple areas can be treated in each session including face, neck, décolleté, hands and hair loss (Alopecia). Hairloss is one condition that responds very effectively to PRP. (Bolden Hairloss)

PRP can be used when treating hair loss in men and women. Patient selection is important because PRP is good at improving skin quality, and compliments treatment with chemical peels, laser, and IPL.

KNEE ARTHRITIS IN YOUNG PATIENTS

Many young patients with chronic knee pain have elements of arthritis. Options for these patients are difficult since they are too young for surgery and cortisone injections may create further problems in the longer term. Medications prescribed often have side effects over longer periods of time, or become less effective. One potential option is using Platelet Rich Plasma. While PRP is considered an “emerging” treatment, it may be worth considering in certain cases, after other options have been exhausted.

TREATMENT

  • Takes 30 minutes
  • Some discomforth
  • Lasts 1 year
MORE ABOUT PLATELET RICH PLASMA

What many patients find appealing with PRP is that it is as natural as it gets. It comes from the individual patient herself and turns on an innate process of rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production. It can offer treatment at different levels as it improves skin quality, scarring, wrinkles and fine lines as well as facial contouring and knee arthritis in young patients. When combined with micro needling, the effects are amplified. PRP has many applications and may be used more and more in the future.

HAIR LOSS FOR WOMEN TOO

PRP treatments alone or in combination can be highly effective in combating this often embarrassing problem and improving confidence. PRP treatments can produce thicker hair in a matter of months. Most require 3-4 sessions to maximize effect.
